The police have arrested nine persons on Saturday in separate incidents. Four persons were arrested for kite-making, one person for possession of explosives and four persons for the possession of liquor.
According to sources, the police, on a tip-off, raided a kite factory in Gulshan-e-Ravi E-Block. Four persons present in the factory were taken into custody and hundreds of kites, strings and other material used for kite-making and flying was seized. The arrested persons, identified as Muhammad Ishfaq, Muhammad Jalal, Afaq and Haqi Mushtaq, revealed in the preliminary interrogation that they prepared kites and strings and distributed them across the province. The Punjab government, in the view of deaths caused by the metallic strings and other related incidents, had banned the kite flying and directed the concerned authorities for strict action against kite flyers and elements engaged in the business.
Meanwhile, the police upon receiving information about a person, Awais Mazhar, carrying fireworks and explosives in his car, arrested him at the Sagian Bridge in the Shahdra Police Station precincts on Saturday. Moreover, a large quantity of liquor was recovered from the possession of four drug pushers, Nadeem Maseeh, Nazeer Maseeh, Waqar Maseeh and Mushtaq, in the Nawankot Police Station precincts.
