‘Police will provide for the injured cops’

The top cops of Lahore Police visited the Sir Ganga Ram and Lahore General hospitals on Saturday to inquire after the health of two constables, injured while performing their duties.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir and DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar went to the Ganga Ram Hospital to see Zahid of Lytton Road Police Station, who was hospitalised after receiving bullet injuries near Qartaba Chowk on Saturday.
According to police, three unidentified persons going on a motorcycle opened fire on the policeman when he signalled them to stop for checking. The injured constable was shifted to hospital where his condition is stable.
SSP Civil Lines Omar Saeed also visited Zahid in the hospital.
Earlier in the day, the CCPO and DIG Operations also visited Lahore General Hospital to meet Constable Zulfiqar who was injured by the firing of an alleged bike robber during a raid on Friday.
The CCPO said the medical expenses for the injured cops would be paid by police. He also announced to award both constables with cash prizes for their bravery.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab Inspector General of Police, reportedly, had taken serious notice of the top brass of police for not attending the funeral prayers of SHO Hadiara.
The police chiefs had missed the funeral prayers of the officer, who was allegedly killed by angry protesters in Ghond village. After waiting for long in Qila Gujjar Singh police lines, the heirs of deceased SHO shifted the dead body to their native town, Nankana Sahib, for offering funerals there.
Case registered against tout: The Lower Mall police registered a case against a licensing tout on complaint of City Traffic Police on Saturday. The accused was identified as Muhammad Kashif, a resident of Karishan Nagar.
According to details, the Traffic Police held a man trying to submit a licence renewal file of a citizen in suspicious manner. On searching, a number of motorcycle and LTV driving licenses were recovered from his possessions. The traffic wardens on the licensing counter handed over the accused to police who has registered a case against accused under sections 420, 468 and 471 of Pakistan Penal Code.
Chief Traffic Officer Syed Mubeen Ahmad advised citizens not to consult any of such touts and directly approach the licensing inquiry counters established at the City Traffic Police Office.
