The season’s first rain on Friday proved to be a blessing for all and sundry. As the mercury dropped, health experts expected the number of people suffering from infectious diseases to decrease as well.
The atmosphere in the provincial metropolitan became pleasant after what the meteorology department called the first downpour of the season that broke the dry winter spell.
The weather was foggy when it started drizzling at 12:30 pm in different parts of Lahore. The downpour gained momentum around 2:00 pm before ending around 4 pm.
Along with the city’s streets and buildings, medical experts believe that infectious diseases were also washed away to a large extent.
According to the Met Office, 1 mm and 4 mm of rain was measured in the city and the airport area respectively. The met office expected the temperature to drop further after the rain. The maximum temperature recorded in Lahore was 14 Celsius with 3 Celsius as the minimum temperature. “It will be foggy and cold after the rain,” said the Lahore Met Office director, adding that the weather would be partially cloudy with low visibility during the day time. He stated that more rain was expected in the coming days.
Dr Ayesha said the rain would bring respite for the people suffering from fever, influenza and other seasonal diseases. She added that the number of patents at public hospitals would also decrease.
