Kot Lakhpat Police killed a proclaimed offender, Manzoor Ahmed, 28, in an alleged encounter on Friday while a police constable was injured in cross-fire. The deceased was originally a resident of Faisalabad and was residing in Nishtar Colony with his wife and two children. Police claimed to have recovered 40 computerized and manual number plates of motorcycles and a bag full of automobile spare parts.
Police said the deceased was wanted by police in a dozen car and motorcycle theft cases. Police said it began to chase the deceased after receiving a motorcycle (LEW-9472) theft call theft call from Lahore General Hospital on Police Emergency 15. Using the tracking system installed on the motorcycle, police reached a house in Sufiabad in Nishtar Colony. Police claimed when they knocked on the door the deceased opened fire, injuring constable Zulfiqar. Police claimed they returned fire in defense and entered the home when the firing stopped to find Manzoor dead and his family. On the information, Nishter Colony and Kahna police also reached the location. Police took Manzoor’s wife Nazia and two children in custody and recovered number plates and automobile spare parts from the house. Police claimed Manzoor had shifted to Lahore after earning a bad name in Faisalabad, where he was challaned in over than ten cases.Manzoor’s widow Nazia told media police killed her husband after he was arrested. She said she pleaded doctors shift her injured husband to the hospital but police let him die. She said the two had contracted a love marriage and were living in Sahiwal before coming to Lahore. Police sources also claimed that police had killed the accused motorcycle thief in their custody and later labeled it an encounter. DIG Operations Ghulam Mahmood Dogar announced awards for SHO Kot Lakhpat Malik Khalid and injured constable Zulfiqar prize money of Rs 100,000 and Rs 300,000 respectively.
Burnt Alive: Nazia, 25, was burnt alive in her kitchen in Shahdara on Tuesday. The deceased was thedaughter of Munawwar, a resident of Farrukhabad. Nazia was preparing food on a stove when her clothes caught fire and she sustained severe burn injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition where doctors announced her dead after attempting to save her. Police reached the spot location but the deceased’s family refused permission to perform autopsy of the dead body.
Meanwhile in four other fire incidents, valuables worth hundred of thousands were reduced to ashes. A fire broke out, late in the evening, in basement of the Shan Arcade plaza in Barkat Market due to short circuiting which reduced furniture and plastic to ashes. Rescue 1122 controlled the fire after being informed. Separately, a gypsy’s tent located on Shadman Ganda Nala caught fire while a woman was preparing food. The fire spread to nearby tents in which Akram and his wife received minor burn injuries. Rescue staff controlled the fire. Three houses each in Makka Colony Gulberg, Shahdra and Cavalry Ground also caught in fire due to short circuiting.
