‘Offer NBP incentives or we won’t collect traffic fines’

National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on Friday refused to collect traffic rule violation fines without incentive. City Traffic Police sources told Pakistan Today that NBP authorities have written a letter to the Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) on Wednesday in which they refused to collect fines against tickets issued by traffic wardens to motorists on traffic rule violations. NBP authorities said they were collecting fines without charging anything while the dozens of motorists that come to different NBP branches to submit fines clutter all branches and create problems for NBP customers. Sources said NBP authorities suggested CTP officials to pay them an incentive against each fine ticket if the CTP wants NBP branches of NBP to keep collecting fines. Sources said NBP officials cited that NBP branches in Islamabad and Karachi and were charging Rs 10 against each fine ticket. Sources said CTP authorities were worried after the NBP’s refusal and the CTO had contacted the Lahore Commissioner to help traffic police in resolving the issue with NBP. Sources said the the commissioner may discuss the matter with NBP authorities or inform the Punjab Chief Minister and request for his intervention in the matter.
