Tank residents fearful as ex-peace committee head beheaded

The beheaded body of a former peace committee commander was found in Warki village close to the Tank city on Thursday. Sources said commander Umer Gul’s beheaded body was found in Warki village and a letter was also found along with his body. The letter threatened locals to abstain from offering funeral prayers of the deceased which sparked panic among Tank locals and its surrounding areas, where terror incidents had witnessed a break. The deceased’s brother said three unknown persons identifying themselves as security agency personnel knocked their door and took Umer Gul along on the pretext of investigation. He said the next morning they discovered the beheaded body of Umer Gul in Warki village along with the threatening letter. Recently, five to six members, including commanders, of the former peace committee formed to combat the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) both in Tank and Dera Ismail Khan, have been killed recently. TTP militants blame former peace committee members for the killing of TTP members and spying for security agencies, however, no organisation has claimed the assassinations, with police clueless on who is killing peace committee members.
