Nawaz Sharif’s demand

This is apropos of news of Nawaz Sharif wherein he expressed to set up military courts in Sindh to eliminate violence and crime.

I am at a loss to understand that even after 10 years of exile, nothing changed in Mian Nawaz Sharif. Supreme Court had already declared these courts illegal as it is tantamount to creating a parallel system of justice. It is a highly immature attitude of Nawaz Sharif to stick to this hackneyed idea of speedy justice through military courts even though he himself is a law graduate. It is a fact that military intervened in 1999 because civil institutions were weakened and the last PML(N) government in Punjab invited military people to search ghost schools and power theft cases.

This shows inefficiency of civil institutions and mismanagement by top brass of these institutions. It is not a solution to make more courts to eliminate dacoit rule in Sindh. It is high time that Mian Nawaz Sharif changed his mindset and grew up and avoided repeating same old mistakes which resulted in his ouster from power corridors earlier.

The solution to the problem is that criminal justice system and police force investigation system should be revamped and restructured and made more effective to curb crime in the country. Military courts were never a panacea to law and order situation; instead, they were contrary to the spirit of democracy.
