A sub-inspector (SI) was killed and eight extremists were arrested during an operation launched by the police and the security forces in Mardan, police said on Friday.
The police and the security forces conducted joint operation late Thursday night against the extremists in Bakhshali area.
The extremists gunned down a sub Inspector Zarnosh Khan and one militant was injured while eight militants were arrested.
The security forces seized a Klashnikov, two-rifles and a pistol from their possession. Sub Inspector Zarnosh Khan was laid to rest in his native town Woodsarai.
