US Ambassador Cameron Munter on Thursday said former US national security adviser General (r) James Jones had no intention to visit Pakistan for recording his statement in the “memogate” case. The US ambassador said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating a four-day international conference on “Archaeology and Cultural heritage in Pakistan and Adjacent Regions”.
The conference has been organised by American Institute of Pakistan Studies in collaboration with the US embassy and the Ministry of National Heritage and Integration. In his comments on the strained US-Pakistan relationship, Munter said 2011 was a bad year for relations between Islamabad and Washington, but the new year would bring improvement in ties. He said, “I hope it will be very positive in 2012 and time will tell how it works.” Munter said the US had faith in the assessment being done by the Pakistani parliament on issues related to the downfall of Pakistan-United States ties.
