PPP’s core committee decides to hold by-elections on vacant seats

The Core Committee of Pakistan Peoples’ Party has decided to hold by-elections to all the vacant seats in the assemblies.
The meeting of PP Core Committee was held at the presidency with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in chair on Thursday.
A private TV channel claimed that the Core Committee of PPP also decided in principle that despite the clear-cut instructions by the Supreme Court, letter would not be sent to Swiss government as President Zardari has constitutional immunity.
It too agreed to hold general elections before prescribed time and setting up of interim government would be consulted with allied parties. The Core Committee also took verdict that the reply of the federation in the Supreme Court would be considered the reply from the president in memo gate scandal.
The meeting reiterated its resolve to continue politics of reconciliation for upholding democracy in the country. The meeting also decided to begin consultative process with coalition partners in the Parliament on the issue of formation of new provinces. Appropriate legislative measures will soon be adopted in the Parliament for the carving out of Seraiki province in the light of consultations with political partners, it decided.
Briefing about the meeting, Spokesperson to the President, Farhatullah Babar said that political and economic situation was discussed during the meeting.
