US ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter on Thursday said his country respected Pakistan’s parliament opinion on US-Pakistan relations.
Talking to media here after attending the Archeology Conference, Ambassador Munter said 2011 was a tough year with reference to US-Pakistan ties as there were several fluctuations in terms of relations.
He hoped thaw would come in the existing strained relations soon. He held that US respected Pakistan parliament opinion on US-Pakistan relations and said that the US is ” awaiting parliament’s recommendations on this count”.
Commenting on the issue of NATO supplies, he said, “we leave this matter to Pakistan authorities either they restore supply or otherwise. However both the countries are in contact with each other on this matter and endeavors are underway that bilateral ties are brought to normalcy. Restoration of ties is essential in the perspective of war on terror because it is not only in the interest of US but is also in the interest of Pakistan,” he remarked.
He was of the view that Pakistan had played a vital role in war against terrorism and US holds it in high esteem.
“We hope Pakistan will continue its cooperation in this regard”, he added.
Responding to a question, he said no special dialogues were being held with Taliban in Qatar. Both US and Pakistan were determined for a stable Afghanistan, he added.
