No more racing thanks to Section 144

The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed four resolutions: against sale of spurious medicines and racing vehicles on main roads, regarding difficulties in obtaining pension, and for paying tribute to Dr Annemarie Schimmel, the German scholar who worked on Sindhi literature and poetry.
DRUGS: The lawmakers expressed concern over the production and sale of spurious medicines, and passed a unanimous resolution urging the provincial government to clamp down on the illegal activity and ensure strict implementation of the relevant laws. PML-F MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi moved the resolution, saying that several fatal incidents have been reported due to consumption of fake or substandard medicines. PPP’s Jam Tamachi Unnar said the provincial government is also involved in this practice, whereas Sports Minister Dr Muhammad Ali Shah said it is very difficult to identify a medicine as spurious.
RACING: Home Minister Manzoor Wasan announced imposing Section 144 on motorcycle/car racing on main roads/highways after passage of resolution moved by MQM MPA Bilquis Mukhtar. PML-F’s Abbasi said youngsters are witnessed racing their motorcycles on the eve of New Year and other occasions. She said the government should provide them with a separate location to do that.
PENSION: The house passed another resolution urging the provincial government to eradicate red-tapism prevailing in the process of pension payments. The resolution reads: “It is proposed that the government introduce an easy system so that a civil servant may get his dues, benefits and pension within three months of his retirement.” The resolution was moved by MPA Aleemur Rehman.
TRIBUTE: MPA Anwar Ahmed Khan Mehar paid tribute to Dr Annemarie Schimmel for her remarkable services for Sindhi literature, and it was unanimously passed by the house. Culture Minister Sassui Palijo recalled the services of the scholar for promoting local literature.
NAWAZ: Treasury members condemned the statement of Nawaz Sharif regarding establishing Rangers’ courts in Sindh, terming it an act to divide people on ethnic basis.
MALALA: The house welcomed international peace award winner Malala Yousufzai in the assembly, and praised her services for women’s education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
