ICT to streamline supply system of contraceptives

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Wednesday decided to streamline the transportation and supply system of contraceptives to the delivery services centres in the rural and urban areas of Islamabad. This was decided at in a meeting chaired by the Islamabad Chief Commissioner Tariq Mahmood Pirzada. The meeting was attended by Population and Women Development Director Dr Farah Mufti, ICT District Health Officer (DHO) Dr M Azhar, ICT District Population Welfare Officer (DPWO) Ali Gohar Khan and other officials. Earlier, the ICT DHO and DPWO briefed the Islamabad chief commissioner about the procedure of procurement and transportation of contraceptives from the warehouse in Karachi to the ICT family welfare centres and rural health facilities.
The officials informed that prior to devolution of the Population Welfare Ministry to provinces under the 18th amendment, they used to send quarterly contraceptives requisitions to the concerned quarters separately. It was decided in the meeting that ICT the DHO and DPWO would send their requisitions in a consolidated form from now on. The officials also informed that a programme for the capacity building of doctors and lady health workers (LHWs) was underway to improve the family planning services and maternal health care in ICT. The easy and safe accessibility of contraceptives at the health outlets was also being ensured.
The meeting also discussed the automation of the District Health Office and the Population Welfare Office of Islamabad for better orientation of the logistical information management system. It would be initiated soon to further streamline the transportation and supply system of contraceptives online. The meeting also decided to constitute a committee headed by the ICT Development and Finance Director to monitor the smooth supply and transportation of contraceptives to the health care facilities.
