ANP activist, PPP leader’s guard among seven murdered

An activist of the Awami National Party (ANP) was murdered in North Nazimabad on Tuesday.
Police told Pakistan Today that unidentified assailants intercepted ANP activist Mohammad Hanif near the Ship Owners College and opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Separately, the private bodyguard of a Pakistan People’s Party leader was killed in Korangi.
The police said Bilal Sheikh was caught in crossfire between two groups in Majid Goth and died after suffering bullet injuries.
In the Lea Market area, the bodies of three men with their hands and legs tied were found.
The bodies were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Two of the victims were identified as Mohammad Akram and Abdul Razzak while the identity of the third victim could not be ascertained by the time this report was filed.
The police said these men were severally tortured before death.
In Nooriabad near the Superhighway, the body of a 30-year-old man was found in a gunnysack.
The identity of the victim could not be identified till the filing of this report. However, the police believe he was a bandit.
In another incident, a man identified as Kareem was murdered by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle at Teen Hatti bus stop. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi.
ROBBERY: Bandits looted two jewellery shops in Shah Faisal Colony No 1 on Tuesday, taking away gold worth at least Rs 10 million.
The police said four bandits entered Khan Jewellers and Hazara Jewellers, held the people inside hostage at gunpoint and made off with gold ornaments.
Following the incident, the traders of the area staged a protest demonstration against the police’s poor performance and demanded immediate arrest of the bandits and recovery of the looted gold.
FIRE: A fire erupted at a cardboard factory in the SITE area, reducing goods worth millions to ashes.
It took the fire brigade six hours to douse the blaze.
