Defending champions WAPDA qualified for the final of the 19th National Baseball Championship, outclassing Police 14-4 in the second semi-final at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex here on Tuesday. Now the reigning champion will again meet the last year’s runners-up Army in the final on Wednesday. Both WAPDA and Police failed to score any run in the first two innings as they were defensive. However, WAPDA scored three runs in the third innings through Usman, Waqas and Imtiaz Butt. In the fourth innings WAPDA had consolidated the lead with six more runs against two they conceded. For WAPDA Usman, Zubair, Asif, Waqas, Adnan and Imtiaz contributed one run each. .
For Police Ahsan and Nasir Butt earned one run apiece but just to reduce the margin of the lead. In the fifth innings WAPDA could not add any more runs while Police scored one through Shabbir to make the score 9-3. In the sixth innings, WAPDA were again on the run-spree collecting five more through Zubair, Usman, Azhar, Asif and Mukkaram. For Police Shahzad Butt scored one run to make the tally. Before the final on Wednesday, Police will take on Punjab in the third-place match. President Pakistan Federation Baseball Shaukat Javed will be the chief guest.
