PM asks PPP to move resolution for Seraiki province

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said the present PPP government fully supports the creation of a Seraiki province and strongly opposed the creation of military courts to deal with situation in Karachi.
Speaking in the National Assembly on Tuesday, he asked the chief whip of Pakistan Peoples Party Syed Khursheed Shah to hold consultation with other coalition partners on the matter and move a resolution in the house for the creation of the province. He said he strongly favored the creation of the province as it was in line with the aspirations of the people of the area and will ensure their rights. He also said those opposing the creation of the province will face defeat in the elections.
Gilani strongly dispelled the impression that creation of new provinces will weaken the country. Instead, it will keep the country intact and strengthen the federation, he said.
Had the rights been given to the smaller provinces, the East Pakistan would not have become a separate state, the prime minister added.
He maintained that PPP is a federal party having roots in all the provinces. We gave identity to the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, Gilgit Baltistan and FATA and we will ensure that people of the Seraiki area get equal rights as well, he added.
About the creation of Hazara province, the prime minister said we will also move forward on it by evolving consensus with the stakeholders.
Reacting on the statement by PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif about the establishment of military courts in Karachi, the prime minister said such courts have no room in democracy, adding that the law and order situation in Karachi has improved significantly.
There is democracy in Pakistan and no military dictatorship to establish military courts, he said, adding that there should be no double standard and in democracy there is no provision for military courts.
About the situation in Balochistan, the prime minister directed the interior minister to ensure law and order situation in the province. He said we have given Aaghaz-e-Haqooq Balochistan package and its implementation will be ensured at all costs.
