A drunken man driving a police vehicle crushed a boy in the Nizampura area and injured pedestrians late on Wednesday night. Police officials said that Rashid, personal cook of the Sadar deputy superintendent of police (DSP), was driving the police van late night while the DSP was away.
Rashid hit the pedestrians and killed Muhammad Omer, a resident of Nizampura, and injured Faisal and Javed, who lived in the Sadaat Colony. The cook was illegally driving the vehicle (Registered: BNG-2424), which was sanctioned to the DSP. Police officials said they arrested Rashid and his medical report proved that he was heavily drunk.
