Workshops for building cops’ capacity to curb human rights violations

On the directives of Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, capacity building workshops were organised to invigorate police’s capacity of curbing human rights violations and promote greater citizen-police interaction. According to a statement issued on Sunday, two workshops were conducted by former Sindh IGP Niaz Ahmed Siddique in collaboration with Shehri- CBE for creating a better environment at the Police Training College, Saeedabad.
The workshops were sponsored by the National Endowment for Democracy. Eminent jurists, senior civil servants and police officers, expert and members of civil society addressed the participants of the workshop on various aspects of human rights and law enforcement.
Siddique imparted training to police officers about the essential elements of crime scene investigation and legal requirements and conducting a probe within the ambit of human rights. The participants were also taken on a tour of Sindh Police Forensics Division where they were briefed by Assistant AGP Munir Sheikh about the importance forensic science in the investigation of cases, it added. Other who spoke at the workshops included Additional IGP Falak Khursheed, Additional IGP Saud Ahmed, CID Additional IGP Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, Prisons IG Ghulam Qadir Thebo, former chief justice of Pakistan Saeeduzzaman Siddique, former federal Minister Shahida Jamil, former IGP Asad Jahangir Khan, additional IGP Zafar Ahmed Farooqi, former Home Department ACS Anwar Haider and CPLC chief Ahmed Chinoy.
