Two allies of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F), have opposed the increase in the prices of oil and gas. The MQM Rabita Committee condemned the government’s move to increase oil and gas prices just before the new year. The committee said the move would sharply increase the prices of commodities and create more problems for the already burdened people. In a separate statement, Adviser to Chief Minister on Special Education and PML-F leader Imtiaz Shiakh demanded that the government should review its policy about increasing oil and gas prices.
