Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that the government was striving hard to solve the energy crisis.Addressing workers of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) here, Dr Firdous said that the government had taken several steps for long lasting solution of the energy crisis. She hoped that the crisis would be overcome soon. However, she said that the PPP government could not be held responsible for the gas crisis, which had been created due to the policies of previous regimes. She said that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had ordered an early solution of the energy crisis and they were personally reviewing the situation on daily basis. She said it was the duty of government to resolve the problems of people and no government wanted that its people have to face any kind of difficulties.
The Information Minister said the government was working on projects of alternative energy resources to meet demands. The country would not have to face energy crisis if foreign investors were earlier provided a conducive atmosphere in the country, she added.
“If projects initiated during the tenure of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto were not terminated and foreign investors were not indulged in fake cases, the situation would have been better with no energy crisis in the country,” she maintained.
Basically, energy projects are long term and those politicizing energy issues are themselves responsible for it, she added.
The utilization of gas, she said, was more than its production and the Prime Minister had issued directives to the managing directors of Sui Southern Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to the domestic consumers.
“ This crisis will be overcome and the government will win applaud from the public,” she said.
Replying to a question, she said the provision of gas to the domestic consumers was the top priority along with its supply to commercial sector and transport.
