The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Punjab chapter on Saturday announced complete support for the doctors of Gilgit Baltistan in the call for strike by the PMA Gilgit Baltistan chapter.
The PMA demanded the Gilgit Baltistan chief minister immediately take notice of the matter and have the case withdrawn against the doctors, so that the strike in the hospitals could be called off.
The PMA Punjab office bearers said further that the government and private hospitals at Gilgit Baltistan had been locked for the last four days but the government had not bothered to look into the matter. The PMA also demanded Prime Minsiter Yousaf Raza Gillani’s attention in the matter.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Jehanzeb Khan on Saturday directed the Health Department officers to establish permanent check posts at the adjacent districts in other provinces, for administering polio drops to the travelling children for eradication of polio virus from the country.
He was presiding over a meeting in his office, held to review the performance of health facilities in district Rahim Yar Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan. The health secretary further directed that the routine immunisation system should also be made effective to ensure vaccination of all children up to the age of two years.
