CM reviews health projects

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review the progress of mega-development projects of the health sector. Senator Ishaq Dar, Members Provincial Assembly Dr Asad Ashraf, Dr Saeed Elahi, chief secretary, Planning and Development chairman, Health and Finance secretaries and concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
The CM said the Punjab government was paying full attention to the provision of quality medical facilities to the masses and concrete steps had been taken for the purpose.
He said medical colleges had been set up in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sahiwal. He added that hospitals equipped with modern facilities were also being set up in various cities. He said work would soon be started on setting up state-of-the-art Ali Hajvery Institute of Organ Transplant in Lahore. Earlier, Punjab Health Secretary Jehanzeb Khan gave a detailed briefing about the various health sector development projects.
CM urges technical education for youth: The Punjab government decided on Saturday to constitute an independent board, headed by the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, for the promotion of technical education among the youth.
The decision was taken at a meeting, presided over by the chief minister, regarding the promotion of technical education in Punjab.
Punjab Vocational Training Council Chairman Faisal Ijaz Khan briefed the meeting on the promotion of vocational training and Secretary Labour Hassan Iqbal briefed on the implementation of the apprenticeship programme.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that the future of Pakistan was linked with technical education, adding that the youth should be imparted with modern education with international certification.
The chief minister also appreciated the efforts of Punjab Skills Development Programme Chief Executive Officer Ali Sarfraz in organising the Hunar Mela in Bahawalpur.
He said that the Punjab Skills Development Programme was working successfully in four districts of the province and technical education could be promoted in the province by replicating the Bahawalpur model of Punjab Skills Development Programme in other areas.
