SC fully respects parliament: CJ

Chief Justice (CJ) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has termed the news running in the media regarding the Supreme Court’s remarks on parliament as incorrect and said that the apex court fully respects it.
The CJ said that the court had said nothing about the parliament and impeachment of the president.
When the hearing resumed, Asma Jahangir, the counsel of former Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani, continued her arguments before a nine-member bench, headed by Justice Iftikhar, here on Thursday.
The CJ said the Army chief should be respected, as they give their blood for defence of the homeland. However, Asma retorted that they (signifying Army chief) are the rulers who command, and others are the ones who give blood.
“We respect the office of the Army chief, but he may commit mistakes, too,” Asma said, while questioning how Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha left met with Mansoor Ijaz with the permission of Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Defending Haqqani before the bench, Asma contended her client has made great effort for the prestige of Pakistan only to be meted out with this disgrace.
