Masked gunmen on Thursday shot dead a police surgeon in Quetta, police said.
Baqir Shah was going home from hospital when the gunmen ambushed his car and shot him in the head five times, killing him on the spot, senior police official Faridullah Braich told sources.
“We do not know the motive of the killing,” Braich said.
But Shah had spoken about death threats from unknown people in a televised press conference earlier this year after he resisted pressure to fudge the postmortem reports of five foreigners shot dead by police.
On May 17, police and Frontier Corps paramilitary forces opened fire on a group, on suspicion that they were suicide bombers who attacked a checkpoint in Kharotabad on the outskirts of Quetta.
A subsequent judicial commission found that the foreigners, three of whom were women, were unarmed. It sacked two police officials over the killings.
