Afghan President Hamid Karzai telephoned President Zardari Wednesday night and discussed issues of bilateral interest, presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said.
The spokesperson said that President Karzai conveyed best wishes of the government and people of Afghanistan.
Afghan president talked to Pakistani counterpart at a time when relations between the two countries have reached at their lowest ebb after the last month NATO strike on two Pakistani border posts which killed 24 soldiers.
Pakistan had lodged protest with Afghanistan over the NATO use of its soil against Pakistan.
The September assassination of Afghan peace envoy Prof Burhanuddin Rabbani had also badly affected bilateral relationship as several Afghan officials had claimed that Pakistani intelligence agencies had helped in the plot while Pakistan had denied the charges.
Presidential spokesman said that the Afghan president inquired about the health of President Zardari and expressed satisfaction that the president had recovered.
President Zardari also thanked President Karzai of his gesture, the spokesman said in a statement.
