Nothing but rose petals for Benazir Bhutto

It was the same old story on the fourth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s leaders thronged to Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to offer rose petals to their assassinated leader, without any iota of shame and regret that her murderers are still at large.
Had these self-proclaimed bearers of the Bhutto legacy not come into power, they would have been, without a shadow of a doubt, screaming their heads off about why their leader’s murderers are still roaming free. December 27 would have been a wild day of protests, marches and infuriated speeches. But while remaining in power, the PPP leaders did almost nothing to ensure that Bhutto’s murder is thoroughly investigated.
On her death anniversaries, they waste an enormous amount of taxpayers’ money on hoardings and newspaper advertisements, displaying their smug faces alongside that of Bhutto, in a bid to display their affection for their slain leader and how much they mourn her demise. But, apparently, they are not the least bit bothered about it as long as they can continue using the Bhutto card to their benefit.
Bhutto’s murder was just another addition to Pakistan’s long list of unsolved political assassinations.
The trend was set with killing of the first prime minister of the country, Liaquat Ali Khan.
It never comes to public knowledge as to why these political leaders were killed and who orchestrated these murders. With the passage of time, the case is quietly shelved and the date of murder becomes a public holiday, much to the delight of government employees.
After the dust is settled, nobody cares. In fact, nobody even bothered to investigate as to why our Baba-e-Qaum had to die a painful death, lying along a road and flies hovering over his face, because of a broken down ambulance.
