The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Wednesday announced the results of the National Essay Writing Competitions for regular university students. The essay competitions were organised across the country in collaboration with Centre for Civic Education Pakistan (CCEP). Talking to APP an official of CCEP said the participants, aged 15 to 25, wrote essays on the topic, ‘What does federalism mean to me?’ “The competitions were held to promote writing, descriptive and creative skills and a futuristic approach among university students. It also aimed to encourage research and analysis on the theme.” At least 62 students from 35 public and private universities and post-graduate colleges participated in the competition.
A panel of judges comprising of senior faculty members from the Quaid-e-Azam University, the National University of Modern Languages and other experts reviewed the essays. According to results Zahra Abidi, from the Bahria University Karachi’s Institute of Professional Psychology secured the first position in the competition while Muhammad Zubair Khan from National College of Business Administration and Economic, Lahore stood second. The third position was awarded to Alia Bibi from Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi. The winners of the first, second and third positions were awarded cash prizes worth Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively along with merit certificates and medals.Certificates of achievement were also conferred on Bela Khan, Lahore University of Management Sciences, Muhammad Umar Iqbal, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Farah Anwar, Institute of Business Management Karachi, Muhammad Ali Raza, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore, Komal Dilshad, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi and Sunnia Farrukh, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi.
