The capital police have arrested six alleged terrorists including a would-be suicide bomber during a search operation near Zia Masjid. The arrests were made from the Shahzad Town police precincts, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan here on Wednesday. He said the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of capital police, during a search operation in the Zia Masjid neighbourhood, arrested a would-be suicide bomber named Waliullah along with his six associates on last Friday. Efforts are underway to the arrest those who were supplying the suspects the explosives used in suicide jackets, Bani Amin said while addressing a new conference here. He said the primary investigation revealed that the arrested men had been involved in various attacks on security forces in Swat.
ROUTINE ARRESTS: Replying to another question, he said, the police station concerned registered a case against those who had set to fire two police armoured personnel carriers during a recent gas outages related protest demonstration. He said the investigation wing of the capital police handed over Rs 3,267,000 to National Bank of Pakistan branch in Rawat following the a court’s orders. The money was robbed on February 13, 2005 from the bank in a heist that also left one of the bank guards dead. He said police successfully recovered the looted money from the robbers. He said two of the robbers who were arrested with money were identified as Raja Tahir and Muhammad Rafique, who were later convicted by the court.
He said four gangs involved in crimes of ‘heinous’ nature and those extorting money while pretending to be loan facilitators had been busted.
He said the CIA police also arrested 11 criminals of four gangs for their involvement in different robbery cases and sized the looted money and valuables.
The nabbed suspects were identified as Waseem Abbass, Muhammad Sohail, MuhammadKashif, Muhammad Ismail, Muhammad Shakeel, Muhammad Munir, Asad Hussain Shah, Abdul Qadir, Abdul Aziz and Muhammad Ashraf.
Four arrested imposters were identified as Abdul Jabber, Abdul Qadir, Abdul Aziz and Asharf—all residents of Khushab.
The twelve carjackers arrested by the teams of ACLC during this month were identified as Faiz Muhammad, Zaze alias Dilawar, Abdullah, Arif, Khalid Khan, Said Wali, Rana Aamir Gulzar, Abdul Qadoos, WaqasZaheer, Gul Khitab, Yousuf Zeeshan and Abdul Sattar. Later, the IGP handed over the car keys of recovered vehicles and money to the rightful owners.
SSP Muhammad Yousuf Malik, SP (Rural) Faisal Bashir Memon, SP (Investigations) Ch Liaqat Ali, ASP Mustansar Feroz and other officials were also present on the occasion.
