The Hydro Carbon Institute of Pakistan (HDIP), a testing authority of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinders, has come under heavy workload after the increased ratio of road accidents due to sub-standard CNG cylinders in vehicles. Rao Abdul Rehman, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), on Wednesday told APP their testing laboratory was working day and night to meet the workload, as vehicles and CNG filling stations’ owners were consulting the lab for cylinder testing certification.
He said testing procedure has been made simple; vehicle’s cylinders were tested and returned to owners in day or two and HDIP also installs the cylinder after testing whereas, CNG filling stations’ cylinder testing may take a week time.
Regarding testing awareness among public and CNG stations, he said CNG stations were checked by inspectors and stations were informed when their certification of testing date comes due.
