PU first, LUMS third

Punjab University ranked first in Pakistan in the Emerald Publishing Group and Higher Education Commission National Digital Library Programme’s (NDLP) ranking for most articles published in Emerald journals during 2011, while Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) ranked third.
This ranking was done at a two-day workshop on ‘Publishing with Emerald’ which was jointly organised by HEC’s NDLP and Emerald Publishing Group. Institutions were ranked and awarded for the highest number of articles published in Emerald journals during 2011 and the highest usage of journals by the various institutions. For the highest number of published articles, University of the Punjab, Lahore was ranked on top with 54 authors; University of Agriculture, Faisalabad came second with 52 authors, while LUMS came in third with 20 authors being published at Emerald.
Emerald Publishing Group Middle East, Africa and Turkey Vice President Alastair Cook was the resource person at the workshop. The opening session was chaired by HEC (IT) Director General Anwar Amjad. The workshop had over 60 participants from universities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, while another 120 participants from 32 universities took part via video conferencing.
Cook highlighted various aspects of publishing, presented an insider’s view on the various stages of publishing and addressed the various factors authors needed to take into account before submitting their articles for reviewing. Cook emphasised especially on ‘Publish or Perish’, and announced a two-month free trial for every institution in the country.
