Orders issued to clear all barricades

Traffic-related issues have gained importance, while the precautionary measures taken for terrorism threats are seen fading as various public buildings, big hotels and schools have been asked to clear out the adjacent roads occupied by security fences and barricades.
Various building managers have started working on clearing the adjacent roads which was occupied by security blockades owing to the wave of terrorism wave that once surrounded the city. Notices have been received by various public building mangers, especially large scale hotel managers after a meeting which was held on last Thursday under the supervision of Lahore Commissioner Jawad Rafique Malik.
After the meeting, notices have been served to major public buildings.
The main focus of the drive initially is The Mall and areas in its vicinity.
Notices ordering to vacate adjacent road and to remove barriers have been issued to WAPDA House, Punjab Assembly, Avari Hotel, Alhamra and Hospitability Inn and others public building.
The WAPDA House, Avari Hotel and Alhamra had completely closed down service lanes and were using them as security slip lanes where vehicles were searched thoroughly before entering to the building compound.
The Avari Hotel assistant manager, while speaking to Pakistan Today, said that the lanes were being used as extra space to check vehicles entering in the hotel. The hotel management volunteered to clear out the lanes saying that it was the right time now. The assistant manager said that not only it was creating traffic problem it was also a source ofnuisance for people visiting Avari as the entry to the hotel was quite confusing.
Security blockage and security slip lanes were made mandatory in all big hotels after a suicide attack in a five start hotel in Islamabad in September 2009. Not only that schools and colleges were made to review there security measures after which road block were seen commonly in the metropolis of Punjab. Road blocks can also been seen in front of Punjab Assembly and Alhamra which shall be removed in the coming days as well. The changes are being made in light of growing traffic problems in the city. With the help of traffic police and the city management are clearing such roads to maintain a flawless flow of traffic in the metropolis of Punjab.

  1. That is a much awaited move. I hope that the district level regulators address the nuisance of a military check post on Jail Road just before it intersects Shami Road at the earliest as well…
