The federal government is all set to increase gas prices by Rs 15.71 per kilogramme from January 1. According to sources in the Petroleum and Natural Resources Ministry, the gas tariff for all consumers will be increased by 15 percent from January 1. Sources said that the federal government had finalised a massive increase in gas prices for all sectors under the Petroleum Levy on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Gas Infrastructure Development Surcharge (GIDS) for fertilizer, industrial, commercial and domestic consumers from January 1. After the increase, the new gas price would be Rs 78.80 per kilogramme. On being contacted, Petroleum and Natural Resources Secretary Ijaz Chaudhry said that gas prices increased two times a year. He said that prices increased on operating basis of gas companies.
