The city once again faced unscheduled and forced load-shedding of 10 hours on Saturday as PEPCO’s shortfall crossed 3,500MW.
The electricity was closed with repeated intervals throughout the day and night. An outage of three hours was followed by an electricity supply of two hours and this pattern was followed throughout. All the city areas faced worst load shedding of the winter season while the LESCO officials switched off their phones to save themselves from the public. The consumers said it had become impossible for them to perform daily activities. They said they have compromised with load shedding but at least they should be given a schedule for outages.
“LESCO should follow the daily schedule so that we can plan our things,” said a businessman Talat Ali adding there is no schedule of load-shedding and the power was being shut down randomly. The housewives said they faced problems in preparing meals during night time.
“Often electricity is closed for three hours in the evening and it becomes difficult to cook anything,” said a housewife Ayesha Khan.
Besides adults, the children said power closure ruined their days. They said it was the holiday season and they could not watch their favourite television programmes. “I could not watch cartoon shows as there was no electricity for many hours,” said a child Abdullah.
Meanwhile, the shortfall of electricity has crossed 3,500MW resulting in sudden blackouts in the country. The sources said that urban areas are facing eight to 10 hours of load shedding while rural areas are suffering from 12 to 14 hours of load shedding.
