Candle-lit Christmas Masses all over the city in every church, glowing tinsel and decorated houses with stars on top brightened the city on Christmas Eve on Saturday night.
Church services brought together all Christians in their respective parishes as well as the large churches of the city, especially the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Regal Church, St Mary’s, Convent of Jesus and Mary, and Hall Road Church.
Christians from all over the city gathered together, said prayers and celebrated the night away afterwards in family get-togethers and other celebratory events.
Christmas Day on Sunday will be started with another Mass service at approximately 9:00am for Catholics and later for Protestants. Later family lunches and dinners will follow with decorated Christmas trees at home and outside.
Groups of young boys and girls will present carols in melodious tones which add more charm to the Christmas functions and faces glow with happiness bringing people together to feast, pray, wish each other well and enjoy the moments that are sacred and blessed.
Being celebrated culturally and religiously since early to mid-4th century, Christmas is the major festival of the believers of Christianity while its charms attract people of different faiths to participate in the events of Christmas celebrations. Christmas services will be held in some 250 city churches where priests will shed light on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ (may God be pleased with him).
Two major gatherings will be held at the Cathedral, The Mall, and Saint Anthony’s on Lawrence Road. Christmas trees and cribs have been decorated in almost all houses of the community.
Administrations of city churches have planned special fairs where families would enjoy every bit of Christmas.
Hope there was no inter communial violence this year.
