LHC directs petitioner to contact DCO against JI sit-in

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday disposed off a petition against the Dharna being organised by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in the city on December 25, directing the petitioner to approach the District Coordination Office (DCO), Lahore for the redress of his grievances. Justice Umar Ata Bandial was hearing the petition filed by Muhammad Nadeem Chaudhry advocate. He had impleaded the Punjab chief secretary, Lahore commissioner, Lahore DCO, JI ameer Munawar Hussain and others in his petition.
The petitioner submitted that the JI Punjab had arranged a Dharna on December 25 on the Ferozepur Road and people from all over the country were expected to attend it. He said that the Christian community would also observe its religious activities on December 25 which start from the night of December 24 and continue till next day. He pointed out that the Dharna would cause difficulties to the Christian community as many roads of the city would be blocked. The petitioner-counsel said that the respondents were responsible for protecting the Christian community which had the liberty to attend religious activities, according to the constitution. The court after hearing the arguments of the petitioner-counsel, disposed off the petition and directed him to approach the DCO for redress of his grievances.
LHC dismisses civil judge from service on misconduct: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a senior civil judge from service on charges of misconduct. According to a notification issued by LHC Registrar Sohail Nasir, senior Civil Judge/OSD Muhammad Hamid Pervaiz Khan, working at LHC Multan bench, had been found guilty of misconduct.
The OSD judicial officer was proceeded against under the Punjab Civil Servants efficiency and disciplinary rules 1999 on the charges of misconduct and the inquiry officer recommended the imposition of major penalty of dismissal from service on him.
The LHC, after perusing the record of inquiry proceedings and explanation by the accused, offered a hearing in person which was conducted by Justice Shahid Hamed Dar on behalf of the authority. The accused officer was found guilty of charges, therefore, the LHC imposed major penalty of dismissal from service on him, forthwith.
LHC dismisses Sehba Musharraf’s plea to transfer case: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a plea seeking a transfer of the case against confiscation of General (r) Pervez Musharraf’s property from Rawalpindi to Lahore. LHC Chief Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed was hearing the petition filed by Sehba Musharraf. However, he argued he could not expect justice and pleaded the court to issue directions to transfer the case from Rawalpindi to Lahore. The CJ after hearing the arguments dismissed the plea, observing that allegations could not be raised on mere assumptions.
LHC seeks report from chief secretary on dengue insecticides: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday sought a report from the Punjab chief secretary and others within two weeks on a petition seeking the directions to purchase standard insecticides for dengue control, to be used next year. Justice Umar Ata Bandial passed the order on a petition filed by a private company through counsel Mohi-ud-Din Qazi, impleading the Punjab chief secretary, health secretary, local government secretary and 180 TMAs across Punjab. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that Punjab was experiencing dengue epidemic for the last several years and the insecticides used for the purpose had proven to be substandard and fake. He submitted that the government had issued letters to all town municipal administrators (TMAs) to purchase insecticides, to be used in the coming year.
