KARACHI: PTI Chairman Imran Khan speaks at a press conference to announce the entry of former PML-N leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi in his party. Online

Former senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on Saturday formally announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaaf (PTI). Hashmi announced his decision in a press conference that was also attended by PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jahangir Tareen, Dr Arif Alvi and others. Imran Khan warmly welcomed Hashmi’s move to join the PTI, saying with the cooperation of Javed Hashmi and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, PTI’s journey had become easy. “Javed Hashmi demands nothing; he has joined the PTI only after becoming inspired by its stance. The movement will benefit from Hashmi’s experience,” he added.
Imran said he and Javed Hashmi joined hands in parliament against a military dictator. “Shah Mehmood Qureshi gave a boost to the party and after Hashmi’s joining, the tsunami of the party has become stronger. We have to change the system.” Imran said a revolution was in the offing in Pakistan. “A sign of that revolution is that people have started to join a political party that does not even a have a single seat in parliament. Politics of self interest are going to end. These people can go and join any party but they left power for their stance. Nobody came to join our party over differences with their parties, but they came to join us because of their point of view.” To a query about any “secret hand” backing his party, Imran said that “secret hand” was of Allah’s.
Speaking on the occasion, Hashmi said Imran has taken a stand about his politics for 15 years. “Imran Khan was my favorite cricketer and now he has become a champion of politics in this country. He came to meet me when I was in the jail. With the passage of time our points of view regarding politics became similar. I spoke in the National Assembly for the first time in 1993 regarding declaration of assets of politicians,” he said.
Hashmi said when Imran “came to meet me, he said he had not come for any personal motive, but for Pakistan. I promised to think and consult. Since a year, I was observing the situation of the country. It was my desire t see a change. I was not annoyed with the [former] party. I accompanied Nawaz Sharif in Larkana. When we returned to Lahore, he first offered me to sit in the car before him. There is no issue between me and the PML-N. I am only saying that PTI’s momentum to bring a change in the country in much stronger compared to other parties”. Hashmi said PTI workers had been at the forefront of the movement for judiciary’s restoration. “I consulted my friends, informed party workers about my decision. My colleagues touched my feet asking me not to leave the party. I respect their sentiments, but we have to take a decision for a bigger purpose.” “To achieve that target I have decided to join the PTI. We will fight a war of principles. We need to protect Pakistan from the incompetent and looters. We have no vested interest, nor a desire to expand any business,” Hashmi added. To a question, he said he had no differences with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi also welcomed Javed Hashmi in the party. He said those joining the PTI were not thinking about their personal interests, but for a bigger cause of a strong and prosperous Pakistan. Talking to reporters at Karachi airport earlier, Hashmi said only time would tell if the PTI was a party of the establishment.
Hashmi said his daughter Memoona Hashmi would also resign from parliament, while an MPA of his area, Shahid Mehmood, would also resign from his assembly membership. In Multan, PML-N workers led by provincial minister for Auqaf held a protest demonstration at Hussain Aghahi Chowk against Hashmi’s decision and expressed strong resentment to the move.
Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said it was Hashmi’s personal decision and the PML-N, being a popular party of the masses, would not be affected by someone’s leaving.
Meanwhile, sources said senior PML-N leader and former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi was also in line to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf in the next few days.
In a related development, PPP’s former information minister Khalid Kharal, one of the founder members of the party, is all set to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), as he had had expressed inability to join the meeting of the PPP Federal Council in Naudero on December 27.

  1. Javed Hashmi has confirmed his joning in PTI. It is worth mentioning here that Javed Hashmi was only leader amongst entire PML(N) who stood against Musharraf and was Jailed when Shareef bros. ran away from country. Joining of Javed Hashmi is a substantial proof that only Allah is behind PTI. To ride on the horses of Establishment is habbit of Nawaz Shareef spiritual son of Zia-ul-Haq.

  2. If Jawaid Hashmi joins the PTI it will augur well for PTI but will be a setback in Southern Punjab for PML N. This is the time to join an honest and hard working party to put the country on a strong and stable footing.

But the question remains like "The Sword of Damocles," when will the bickering start betwixt Jawaid Hashmi and Shah Mahmood Qureshi? Salams

  3. Alhumdulillah…an excellent addition to PTI. This will a great asset for IK to balance power within the party…

May Allah protect this nation and you all, ameen.

  4. Its Humble request to all PMLN workers and suppotorz that they immediatly stop abusing and not give a single remark about Sir Javed Hasmi..

Beacuse he is only single and true sincere politican in pakistan!

    1 Bhadar Admi
    Hasmi, Hasmi!!

  5. If pml n supporters of hashmi trully liked hashmi then they wouldnt have continued to support the family politics of nawaz. I ask them if they trully have any shame left then join PTI with hashmi sahab and serve the nation with clean intentions.

  6. This is the first men with undoubted credibility who has joined Imran Khan as compared to others who have a history of opportunism and being turn coats, having served Shaukat Aziz, Jamali, Musharraf and anybody who has been in power.

  7. Thanks IK. Its all your efforts which make us pride to be a part of your party. Javed Hashmi has a well sounded political background and it would help us to formulate our party structure with his judicious advice.

  8. Another Punch by Imran Khan to the people who thinks he is an ordinary man….Its tghe beginning…..Lets wait for his full swing….

  9. Now this yaer I will vote and will fullful the responsibly of my part for the my home land Pakistan….

  10. Is age mn tu hashmi sb ko lota kehte howe bhi sharam ati hai but
lagta hai hashmi sb ko kuch feel nhi howa

  11. Need to demolish all parties, all divisions, and join the country under one flag of Pakistan. No one in a muslim state is allowed to forge divisions. These divisionary politics of democracy, a tyranny of the majority, is the design of western nations to undermine the muslim unity!!!

  12. This all PTI hype shit started after IK met ISI Chief. He even admitted his meeting with ISI chief. shame IK

Pakistani people are just fool if they choose PTI to run this country because its establishment who wants PTI in government.

How come a leader (PML-N Chief) who had 85% popularity after the reinstate of judges and last year he had 62% popularity cant win next election ???

This all PTI shit is to stop PML-N to come in power. Pakistani nation as always just being fools by agencies. This country is always run by these agencies cunts.

  13. congratulation to jawaid hashmi for taking such a bold step for joining PTI. Mr Hashmi has really stood up on the "Voice of his Conscientious". Now the victory of PTI in the forthcoming elections seems indispensable. PTI now should start spade work on formulating strategy for implementing their manifesto.Imran Khan has spent a good part of his career in UK and Australia and know how do they do in the context of "Good Governance" and therefore should enforce that system in Pakistan. If they could do so, Pakistan can become richer than these most developed countries.

  14. Javed Hashmi started his career as a Student leader in college and university politics. I heard his name in Mustafa Khar's tenure as a governor of Punjab. He was a very daring student leader and suffered the most during Khar's time. He was from Khanewal, so siraiki belt starts from Multan. So with Javed Hashmi's inclusion the PTI gets more stronger in Punjab. Yes, he is from Khanewal but he has an influence on the people from Pindi to Lahore. Imran Khan must be the happiest person in the PTI with this addition, as he has the heavy weight member Shah Mahmood from Multan. With all this going and junior leaders joining the PTI everyday, I guess Imran will have to form a selection committee to get best on merit to win. When a party is of surplus political leaders it is a very strong indication that it will win. Like when PPP came first time in power under the leadership of ZAB, the party had 3 popular leaders from one constituency and it was difficult to decide who should be given the PPP ticket. Now this seems with PTI and a significant similarity is visible. It will be good for the country if PTI and Imran wins a landslide victory in the polls so later he does not have to go for coilation government.

  15. NO ONE CAN STOP ANYONE TO TAKE DECISIONS.BUT THERE IS A PROPER WAY.YOU GET ELECTED ON ONE PARTY NOMINATION AND SUDDENLY QUIT TO BE ELECTED ON OTHER PARTY TICKET.THIS IS NO PRINCIPLE OR CONSCIENCE BUT MOCKERY AND SELFISHNESS.THE WAY HASHMI LEFT ML-N WITH DISGRACEFUL DISCOURTESY;IT IS A TREACHERY BY NIGHT.
HOWEVER,NAWAZ SHARIF HAS TO HUMBLE HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY,SHAHBAZ ETC OR THEY PERISH.HE SHOULD STOP TALKING ALWAYS AGAINST ESTABLISHMENT WHICH CAN BE DONE DISCRETELY. IT IS TRAGEDY IMRAN KHAN HAS TAKEN ANOTHER TREACHEROUS COURSE TO DELAY 'CHANGE PROCESS FOR THREE YEARS TO HIS SUITING WHHICH MAY BE TOO LATE TO SAVE PAKISTAN.HAD HE JOINED NAWAZ SHARIF AND GONE TOGETHER ,MATTERS COULD HAD CHANGED AND NOW WE SHALL PLAY IN THE HANDS OF TREACHEROUS UNTRUSTWORTHY.

  16. Nawsz Sharif tried to hit a sixer by raising slogans against PTI but ALAS! MR IMRAN KHAN caught it in the form of SYMBOL OF DEMOCRACY MR JAWED HASMI.
