Javed Hashmi on Saturday described his new leader Imran Khan as champion of politics shortly after he parted ways with Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and formally joined Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI).
“Imran Khan is a champion of politics and is determined to bring change in Pakistan,” Hashmi told a news conference along with Imran Khan and vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi.
Hashmi said that he had no differences with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shabaz Sharif.
“I had no differences with my ex party, I just left the party, seeing Imran Khan’s speed to bring change in Pakistan,” he added.
Hashmi said he used to like Imran as his favourite cricketer and now he thought PTI chief is the champion of politics in the country.
He said he joined Imran Khan due to similarity of thought, adding that he had been struggling for accountability of politicians and Imran Khan has also been struggling for 15 years.
Hashmi said that PTI workers were committed and determined during lawyer’s movement, reflecting vision of their leader Imran Khan.
He dispelled the notion that the establishment was backing the PTI and Imran Khan.
Expressing pleasure over Hashmi joining the party, Imran Khan welcomed him and said Hashmi joined his party over ideology.
He said Hashmi always stood by his principles with no regard to compromise, adding he (Hashmi) did not hinge his joining on any condition; rather, he joined the party on ideology.
“It is first time that politics of ideology is coming into view in Pakistan at the PTI platform,” he noted.
Speaking on the occasion, Imran Khan said that his party would greatly benefit from the experience of Javed Hashmi. He said that Hashmi unconditionally joined the PTI and never demanded any position in the party.
Replying a query regarding establishment, Khan asked the reporter whether he thought he had ever been controlled by anyone in the past.
Khan said his party would not accept new election if conducted near future on prior electoral system.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he did not have political differences with Javed Hashmi and he welcomes him in the party.
Former foreign minister welcomed army chief statement to strengthen democracy in the country saying that current government has dragged the country to the edge of destruction and people of Pakistan were demanding for change.
