A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered status quo on Thursday in a petition against cutting of green trees along the Shahrah-e-Faisal.
After initial hearing of the petition filed by Shakeel Ahmed, the SHC bench including Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Imam Bux Baloch issued notices to the respondents including Karachi Cantonment Executive Officer and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation for January 12, 2012 and ordered status quo.
The petitioner had submitted that the respondents are cutting green trees planted along the main Shahrah-e-Faisal from Gora Qabaristan towards the main gate of Regent Plaza Hotel for advertising purposes and earning revenue at the expense of environment.
He prayed that the court restrains the respondents from cutting the trees to maintain the environment in the area.
