The provincial government has chalked out a special plan for redressing repair, renovation and development of the damaged infrastructure due to this year’s monsoon rains, said Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday.
He said this while presiding over a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House to review the progress on various development schemes in the province.
“Due to this year’s monsoon rains, the infrastructure was damaged but we have to rehabilitate the flood-affected areas for the facility of people,” the chief minister said.
He said the formalities regarding the release of funds under provincial government for development schemes have been simplified. “To complete the schemes within the stipulated time, the Planning and Development (P&D) and Finance departments have been directed to immediately release the required funds against the development schemes approved,” he added.
“We have to provide relief to the people and the basic needs of masses are to be fulfilled at the earliest,” Shah said.
Stressing upon the deputy commissioners of the province, the chief minister said that as project directors, the deputy commissioners should go ahead in initiating and completing the development schemes in their respective districts. “At present, the developmental projects are part of provincial Annual Development Programme,” he added.
He maintained that President Asif Ali Zardari is interested in progress, development and prosperity of Pakistan and has said that full emphasis should be made on achieving prompt results.
Speaking at the meeting, the provincial Finance secretary informed the participants that an amount of Rs 7.5 billion has been released to the districts in the province and the directives of the chief minister will be followed strictly.
It was decided at the meeting that Sindh chief secretary will hold immediate meetings with the deputy commissioners for removal of hindrances in the development schemes, if any and the chief minister may also hold video conferencing with deputy commissioners on Friday (today).
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, P&D Additional Chief Secretary Israr Malik, Finance Secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch and Secretary to Chief Minister Dr Atta Muhammad Panhwar among other officers of the Finance and P&D departments.
