Police to steer clear of doctors

The Punjab Police inspector general has issued a directive to police officials all over Punjab not to register a police case against a doctor in cases of alleged medical negligence and to refer the matter to the Punjab Health Care Commission instead.
The directive further mentioned that no negligence would be tolerated in this matter and if a police official violates the directive, he will have to face departmental action.
PMA office bearers Dr Muhammad Tanveer Anwar, Dr Izhar Ahmed Chaudhry, Dr Muhammad Ashraf Nizami, Dr Akhter Rashid Malik, Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Ihsan ur Rehman, Dr Yasmin Ehsan, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Sabahat Habib Khan and Dr Salman Kazmi in a combined press statement congratulated the doctors’ community and thanked the Punjab chief minister and IG Punjab on this directive and hoped that this would help avoid the protests and strikes in hospitals in future.
