Ajoka opened its new play ‘Amrika Chalo’ (‘Destination America’) at Al Hamra on Thursday evening much to the delight of theatre lovers. After a long time Ajoka has performed a new play which was a refreshing change in the theatre scene in the city.
The play, written and directed by Shahid Nadeem, was a hit and was termed a “serious comedy”.
Amrika Chalo is a satirical response to the love-hate relationship between Pakistan and the US dilemma. Pakistanis will always hate US policies but when it comes down to the real question many would opt for settling down in the US.
Meanwhile, the list for hating America is long and unending: military interventions, “do more” demands, drone attacks, etc. But the play did not end up being a poltical statement about international politics or US-Pak relations. Instead, it is a light-hearted, self-critical view of double standards and hypocrisy on both sides.
