“Our youth is the future of Pakistan and we cannot achieve national progress and prosperity without providing sufficient opportunities to youngsters to come forward and explore their talents in various fields,” said Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi on Wednesday.
Talking to London South Bank University Department of Informatics Professor Ebad Banissi on the latter’s visit to AIOU, Sangi said: “Allah has endowed us with immense qualities and great potential to strive for knowledge and skills. “The AIOU has always been a pioneer in introducing cutting-edge teaching methodology, utilising the services of the best faculty and offering diverse academic programmes for affordable fees. We have delivered education through advanced technology to our students,” he said. He added that to improve the quality of education, a quality enhancement cell was fully functional to assist the academic departments at the AIOU. The AIOU graduates had been successfully working in all sectors and were providing support and leadership to their families and communities, he stated.
“The AIOU was established in 1974 to combat illiteracy, extend educational opportunities to women and underprivileged youth at their doorsteps. The AIOU has emerged as one of the mega-universities of the world which provides countywide educational opportunities and caters to the needs of more than 1.5 million students every semester,” he said. He added that the AIOU, by virtue of its size, capacity and national outreach, was playing a vital role in providing quality education across the country.
