The Supreme Court of Pakistan Wednesday directed the Election Commission to complete preparation of voters’ lists by December 31.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing Imran Khan’s petition seeking elimination of bogus votes from voters list.
The Chief Justice said the court would have to pass order against Secretary ECP because he had done nothing.
The NADRA and Election commission produced their reports regarding preparation of new voters’ list. The ECP secretary told the court that the process was delayed after Sindh and Khyber Pakhutunkhwa governments sent resolutions asking for the delay due to floods and law and order situation.
The Chief Justice said Sindh had not send any resolution, while peace had been restored in Swat, as he himself visited the valley recently.
He said that voters’ lists should be precise and according to CNIC. The Chief Justice remarked that 44 percent of votes were bogus and there would be chaos in the country if next polls were held on the basis of same lists.
