The Supreme Court of Pakistan Wednesday directed the Election Commission to complete preparation of voters’ lists by December 31.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing Imran Khan’s petition seeking elimination of bogus votes from voters list.
The Chief Justice said the court would have to pass order against Secretary ECP because he had done nothing.
The NADRA and Election commission produced their reports regarding preparation of new voters’ list. The ECP secretary told the court that the process was delayed after Sindh and Khyber Pakhutunkhwa governments sent resolutions asking for the delay due to floods and law and order situation.
The Chief Justice said Sindh had not send any resolution, while peace had been restored in Swat, as he himself visited the valley recently.
He said that voters’ lists should be precise and according to CNIC. The Chief Justice remarked that 44 percent of votes were bogus and there would be chaos in the country if next polls were held on the basis of same lists.
Voters lists must be as accurate as possible.
Elections should take place in Pakistan every 4 years.
The political parties must have their elections conducted by an independent body every four years.
Electoral Reform Society of United Kingdom is one such independent body.
Today is December 21. Chaudhry wants Election Commission to complete work by December 31, that is, within ten days. I wonder if Chaudhry can dispose all pending cases in Supreme Court, nay, Chaudhry Court, by December 31 especially those of his blue eyed politicians from Raiwind.
There is a way to disagree and put your feelings across in an effective manner.
The sooner people in India & Pakistan realize this the better.
If I may add, with no disrespect to the writer (Mr Malik), that English is a foreign language and its use has changed over the years. A lot of the time user of English as second language is unable to grasp the message between lines.
