Pakistan International Airlines Retired Employees Association (PIAREA) in its general body on Tuesday demanded that the airline’s pension fund should be spent on retired employees and their families instead of being used for other objectives.
It also demanded increase in pensions immediately to provide relief to the retired employees in these times of inflation.
The meeting was presided over by PIAREA President Tahir Hassan. Former managing director of the PIA, Arif Ali Khan Abbasi also assured his patronage to association during the meeting.
A day earlier, the Joint Action Committee of PIA Employees (JACPIAE) had demanded that the federal government should take stringent measures to save the national flag carrier from total devastation. Otherwise the employees will have no other option but to approach the Supreme Court. It said that about 15 to 20 employees in the PIA’s top management are responsible for the devastation of the airline, which has been marred by mismanagement, ill-planning, corruption and nepotism.
JACPIAE Convenor and Pakistan Airline Pilots Association (PALPA) President Captain Suhail Baluch and Deputy Convenor Shaukat Jamshed demanded that the government should take immediate corrective measures by appointing competent administration. They said that the PIA managing director claimed that he would take 90 days to change the airline’s fortunes, but he miserably failed to keep his word.
