Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman and President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari will address “a mammoth public gathering” at the Bhutto’s hometown Naudero on December 27 on the occasion of the party’s assassinated leader Benazir Bhutto’s fourth death anniversary.
Party sources said that it will be President Zardari’s first public appearance and political speech after his return to the country late on Sunday night after spending around two weeks in Dubai.
The president has meanwhile re-started his political activities with an overnight meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad. Pictures of the meeting released by the authorities show Zardari healthy and normal.
Party sources said Zardari will stay in Karachi for around a week and will resume work at the Presidency in Islamabad after a week’s rest. They said Zardari will go to Naudero, Larkana to attend the fourth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto.
During his stay in Karachi, he is expected to hold political meetings with PPP leaders and allies. He will listen to and resolve issues being faced by the MQM and PML-Q regarding the coalition set up. Allies, including PML-Q leaders, are said to have reservations about ministries and issues regarding the local government system in Sindh.
Zardari returned a few hours before PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif started his three-day visit to Karachi o overshadow the significance of Nawaz’s visit. The week will see important political leaders in Karachi with political campaigning between President Zardari, Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif under way. PPP, PML-N and PTI leaders have hired and encroached on a number of billboards, especially those on Shahrah-e-Faisal.

  1. Bhutto died over thirty years ago . Inn lillha hay wa inna alahya rajayoon.

I was like Mr Jaffery in late 70’s, becoming very emotional, if anything was said against Late Mr Bhutto. However when I read different accounts a very different picture of Late Mr Bhutto emerged.

It was a very sad account of a personality driven by ambition and vindictiveness. Late Mr Bhutto lost elections and refused to sit in the opposition; talked of two Prime Ministers and raised damaging slogans like “idher ham odher tum”.

It was also very moving when I saw Tara Messiah after the tragic death of Mr Bhutto when he narrated the picture of a weak and a broken man asking him to finish it.

My reminiscing of those very sad and fateful events in a different part of the world, after more than thirty years make me shudder, even today.

May Allha give Mr Zardari the wisdom to understand that he is none more wiser (heavier) than the others.

May Allah give him the strength to face the truth.

  2. What he has to say other than that I screwed up big time. Doing politics and playing politics are two separate things. Mr. Zardari played it so should pay the price now. Did someone tie a bomb to his ankle to bring him back?

  3. Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif are no match to Asif A. Zardari when it comes to politics. He is far smarter than the two.
