The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the capital city police have arrested 12 accused for involvement in fraudulent activities and theft on Tuesday. A police spokesman said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan took serious notice of the increase in crime incidents and directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Yousuf Malik to arrest the criminals involved.
Following these directions, Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Ch. Liaqat Ali constituted special teams headed by CIA In-Charge Bashir Ahmed Noon and including Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ali, Assistant Inspectors Tariq Rauf, Abdul Hafeez and others. Twelve people were arrested, including a gang of fraudsters who minted money by posing as the managing directors of various mobile companies on the pretext of giving customers prize money after getting an easy load.
Some of the people arrested had been involved in stealing truck tyres from a General Tyre Company branch in Sector I-10/3, looting a mobile phone shop in Iqbal Town and looting a house in Sector I-9/ 4 on October 13.
The police team recovered looted items worth thousands of rupees from them, including a laptop, computer, an LCD, 13 mobile phones, real and artificial jewellery, cash and two 30 bore pistols.
The arrested were identified as Fazal Ghani, Ameen Ullah,Pervez, Zar Khan, Abdul Jabber, Abdul Qadir, Abdul Aziz, Ashraf, Farooq Khan, Sohail Khan and Zabi Ullah. Further investigation and a search for their accomplices are underway.
