Ahmed Shah panel wins Arts Council elections

The Ahmed Shah-led 17-member panel scored a comfortable victory in the the annual elections of the Arts Council of Pakistan (Karachi), the country’s premier arts and cultural body.
There were 40 candidates in the run for five slots of office-bearers — president, vice president, secretary, joint secretary and treasurer — and 12 governing body members.
Several prominent academic, literary and social personalities took part in the polls. The major rivals in the contest were the two panels — one led by the incumbent president, Ahmed Shah, and the other led by the well-known entertainer Umer Sharif. Ghulam Ali Wafa, also a prominent name on the ballot paper, was vying for the slot of president a an independent candidate.
