Sacrifices of police in war on terror hailed

The capital police have rendered many sacrifices in war against terrorism and its personnel averted many threats with courage and even sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
“We are proud of martyrs of Islamabad police who have written golden chapter with their blood and ensured protection to the lives and property of the citizens,” said IGP Bani Amin Khan while addressing a passing-out parade of the 7th batch of Anti-terrorist squad at Police Lines Headquarters here on Friday.
The IGP said that role of anti-terrorist squad is important to combat the menace of terrorism and successful operations against 58 terrorists were ensured in this year by these trained personnel. Around 42 officers and jawans of capital police embraced martyrdom in the fight against terrorism.
He said that 2008-09 were challenging years for Islamabad police force but effective policing brought success in year 2010-11. He also called for enhancing professional capabilities of policemen to cope with the challenge of terrorism.
A total of 40 policemen including officers and jawans passed out this course who also staged a mock demonstration to counter any terrorist activity. The squad has also been given training for conducting any rescue operation in case of any emergency.
The IGP said that Islamabad police foiled the nefarious designs of several terrorists this year and appreciated the role of personnel of Islamabad police in combating terrorism. He said that government has awarded the highest number of medals to this force due to the best performance and also thanked for enhancing the salaries of the force.
Later, the IGP distributed certificates and medals among the passing out candidates as well as Senior Instructor and other instructors.
A total of 681 policemen including two DSPs, 37 Inspectors, 42 Sub-Inspectors, 30 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 64 Head Constables, 469 Constables and 37 Lady Constables have so far passed out in various ATS Courses.
DIG (Headquarters) Ahmed Mukaram said that 40 participants of this course were given training about Weapon Handling, Firing Techniques, VVIP protection and other professional skills. He also appreciated the efforts o Instructors who worked hard to impart effective training among the cops.
A smartly turned out contingent of Islamabad police presented guard of honour to the IGP Bani Amin Khan who also observed the parade.
DIG (Headquarters) Ahmed Mukarram, AIG (Establishment) Ashraf Zubair Siddiqui, AIG (Operations) Sultan Azam Temuri, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Headquarters) Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, SSP Islamabad Muhammad Yousuf Malik, SSP (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood, and other police officials were also present on the occasion.
