LHC seeks reply from commissioner, others on school’s demolition

The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought written replies by December 19 from the Lahore commissioner and others on a report submitted by the local commission in a contempt plea against demolishing a school in violation of the court orders.
As the court proceedings started, the local commission submitted its report before the court, stating that a major portion of the school had been damaged.
The court, handing over the report, directed the respondents, including Lahore Commissioner Jawad Rafiq and the Model Town assistant commissioner to file their replies by December 19.
Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood was hearing a petition filed by a charitable school for boys, Pakistan Foundation Technical Institute, pleading that the LHC had restrained the Revenue Department and the city district government from demolishing the charitable school on Walton Road. However, a major portion of the school had been demolished on October 8.
Earlier, the court appointed a local commission to know the actual position after the petitioner’s counsel opposed to the statement by the Lahore commissioner, who appeared following the court orders, that the government had not demolished the institution’s property and the bulldozed property was not in the use by the school.
